We always hear people preaching about setting goals.
Daily goals, weekly goals, monthly goals and yearly goals.
You must have goals or you will fail.
Don’t make the jump until you see the landing spot.
Don’t be on a boat without a compass or you will have no direction in life.
But why is it that after we achieve a goal we sometimes feel empty?
Achieving something we have worked so hard on requires discipline and desire night and day.
Yet, we can still feel empty.
Let me tell you why goals are so important:
Goals without purpose will always leave you feeling empty.
If you don’t have a reason and true purpose connected to your authentic self you will always feel empty.
Ask yourself these questions on your next mission.
- Why am I doing this project?
- What is my reason for going after this goal?
- Am I doing it out of resentment?
- Am I doing it to be famous and prove those who doubted me wrong?
- Am I doing it because everyone else is telling me I should even though I don’t want to do it?
If you are answering yes to these questions it is not surprising that you might feel empty once you reach the mountain top.
It’s ok to do things for money if you need to support your family.
But if you are just doing it to prove to people that you are great, the chances are you actually don’t care enough because you are still feeling empty.
I have achieved a lot of things that might look good from the outside but the experience didn’t have meaning and I felt completely lost afterward.
Ask yourself these questions when you feel uneasy about a project or a direction in life.
- Why am I doing this?
- How can I be of service?
- Am I people-pleasing or will this project add meaning to my life?
They are simple questions but they are so important.
As they say, know you’re why.
Don’t get distracted and do things that have zero meaning or you will always feel empty.
Goal setting is important but goals without purpose will leave you hollow.
Be you no matter what.
Do what feels right.
Have the vision, know you’re why, have a purpose, set your goals and go.
