Getting up at 5 am every day to work out when you are over 40 and have ulcerative colitis sucks.
But what choice do I have? Well, we all have choices? I can choose to be lazy, eat bad, feel like crap and have my colon removed.
But is that really a choice? And if it is what I choose, why would I choose to let myself go knowing the cost?
Why is it we will make bad choices knowing the consequences and then when things fall apart or we get sick, we blame other people?
When I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis I was told to take a bunch of drugs or I would get colon cancer. I got really sick from the meds and had every side effect in the world and the doctors still kept suggesting I take more drugs.
When things got to a point where I was probably going to lose my wife and I felt like driving head-on into the freeway traffic, I knew I had to stop taking the drugs they were giving me.
I realized there was no magic pill and I would have to get healthy naturally if I was going to have any kind of life.
People are always looking for a short cut or some magic pill to get in shape or to feel better about themselves.
The media sells us this lie all the time.
Let me tell you because I have been there and I know… there is no magic pill that will fix your life.
Hard work is just that, hard work.
If you do the work then things fall into place. Is it easy? Hell no.
As the Navy seals like to say, the only easy day was yesterday.
Do the work and you will be rewarded. Cut corners and you will always pay the price.
At the end of the day, you can bullshit the world but the real truth is… you are only bullshitting yourself.
